We live in a world where the most bizarre things happen and getting married to oneself is just one out of the 1000 bizarre things we see in this world.

Laura Mesi who is a fitness instructor promised herself when she was younger that if she hadn’t gotten married by the time she clocked 40, she would get married to herself. Eventually, she hit the two scores without a man to call her own and she did not fail to keep her promise. Crazy right?

In an interview with Italian Newspaper, La Repubblica, Messi said:

“I told my friends and family that if I had not found my soulmate by my 4oth birthday I would marry myself”

Mesi’s wedding was not a lowkey something. This lady spent more money than what is spent in most actual weddings. She spent eight thousand seven hundred Euros on her wedding gown, wedding ring and even a cake which was capped with a lone figure of herself.

Friends and Family joined her to celebrate this union with herself. In total, About Seventy guests were present at her wedding ceremony and of course, there was lots of food, drinks, dancing and merrying. After the event, Mesi flew to Egypt where she would have her honeymoon, with herself.

Nothing can trade the companionship which n actual partner will provide. It is for this reason that Mesi, although claims to be happy with the wedding ceremony, also admits that if she ever did meet “Mr Right” she’d surely divorce herself for a real husband and a real companion.

She mentioned this to La Reppublica:

“if one day I find a man withwhom I can plan a future I will be happy, but my happiness does not depend on him. I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves . You can have a fairtytale even without the prince. This is my fairy tale wedding – only without a prince charming

“Self marriage”, also called “sologomy” is a trend that is growing in the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Australia. This is to say that there are lots of Laura Mesi’s out there who have probably grown tired of waiting for “the one” and have decided to take matters into their own hands and marry themselves.

It is only a matter of time before this trend becomes popular in countries all over the world. Human beings have a knack for imitating the strangest and most bizarre things. As a matter of fact, this is not even strange to a lot of people – it is nothing more than the ordinary. After all, do we not have people who get married to animals?

This “self marriage” will definitely not cross the boarders of Nigeria though, due to the conservative nature of majority of her populace. And thank God for that because I cannot imagine sister Amaka getting married to herself, or brother Kunle kneeling down to propose to himself.
