ALSTDI Endorses Prof. Pauline Ngozi Ikwuegbu, Hails “Unprecedented Turnaround” at FCE Eha-Amufu By Airon news online

The African Leadership Strategy and Transparency Development Initiative (ALSTDI), a governance and accountability advocacy group, has publicly endorsed Prof. Pauline Ngozi Ikwuegbu, Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, citing a sweeping institutional transformation over her seven-year tenure.

At a press briefing held Thursday in Abuja, ALSTDI Executive Director Nelson Osseize described the College’s trajectory under Ikwuegbu as “a renaissance that has redefined its place in Nigeria’s teacher-education landscape.” The group said its position follows an independent assessment of the College’s physical, academic, and community impact.

From Decay to Modern CampusOsseize told journalists that Ikwuegbu inherited an institution plagued by systemic decay: dilapidated lecture halls, impassable internal roads, erratic power supply, inadequate hostel space, and limited academic infrastructure. “Seven years on, the evidence is visible, functional, and in use,” he said. “All projects we inspected were completed, operational, and serving their intended academic and administrative purposes.”Key infrastructure upgrades listed by ALSTDI include:-

*Roads and Power*: Construction of a fully tarred internal road network and deployment of solar-powered electricity systems campus-wide to address chronic outages.-

*Academic Facilities*: Erection of new academic buildings and a modern library complex to expand teaching and research capacity.-

*Student Welfare*: Renovation and expansion of hostel accommodations to ease overcrowding and improve living conditions.-

*Skills Development*: Establishment of an ultra-modern entrepreneurship centre designed to equip students with vocational and business skills alongside pedagogy.

Academic Expansion and Access ALSTDI highlighted the introduction of a bi-modal academic system as a major policy shift. The model allows FCE Eha-Amufu to run both Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and full degree programmes concurrently, broadening access for students in Enugu North and adjoining states.“For aspiring teachers, the ‘distance to opportunity’ has been cut dramatically,” Osseize noted. “Students who previously had to travel far for degree programmes can now access them here.”Staff Development and Community Integration

The group also credited the administration with leveraging TETFund interventions for staff capacity building. According to Osseize, academic and non-academic staff have benefited from TETFund-sponsored training, research grants, and conference attendance, which he said improved productivity and morale. On community relations, ALSTDI pointed to two interventions: the integration of the Umualor host community into the College workforce after what it described as years of marginalization, and the creation of a College/Community Relations Committee. Osseize said both moves reduced friction and improved cooperation between the institution and its hosts.

The College’s agricultural programme was singled out for aligning with the agrarian economy of Eha-Amufu. “These are not showcase farms,” Osseize stressed. “Students use them for practicals, SIWES, and entrepreneurship training.”Financial Prudence and Economic SpilloverALSTDI’s assessment emphasized project completion rates and utilization. “Government-assisted interventions attracted during her tenure were completed and put to use, avoiding the ‘abandoned project’ syndrome common in the sector,” Osseize stated. He added that the College’s growth has stimulated the local economy, with residents reporting increased commercial activity and rising property values. “Residents now describe the College as ‘the one federal thing we can see and touch,’ reflecting a renewed sense of inclusion,” he said.Response to Criticism.

Addressing what he called “unfounded criticisms” of the administration, Osseize argued that evaluation should rest on verifiable metrics. “Policy should be judged by verifiable outcomes. On infrastructure, access, equity, and community relations, the outcomes are documented,” he said.

ALSTDI’s VerdictALSTDI framed Ikwuegbu’s tenure as a replicable model for federal tertiary institutions, citing the combination of infrastructure delivery, inclusiveness, and financial accountability.“She came, she saw, and she conquered with excellence,” Osseize concluded.
